「口腔癌別急著切除，給自己一個保留外觀及功能的機會」
口腔癌是國人中年男性常見的癌症，也是世界主要關注的公共衛生議題之一，目前在臺灣的男性好發的癌症中排名第四，在台灣每年約6000例新增個案，它的高發生率可歸因於國人嚼食檳榔、喝酒及抽菸習慣。在口腔癌中，發生在唇部的約有15-30%、而當中約 1-15%會侵犯到口唇聯合處。早期口腔癌可以使用單一治療方式如手術切除或放射線治療來達到相同的效果；不幸的是，大多數口腔癌症被診斷時已經是晚期了，這其中如果再侵犯到口唇聯合處時，其治療更具複雜，而它的5年治癒率只有34-50%左右。手術切除仍然是治療口腔癌的主要方式，不過它往往會造成顏面外觀的改變和飲食、語言等功能障礙；此外病人可能會產生社會、心理層面上的問題，會讓部分的病患因此而不願治療。
